Lucas Marx has experienced an exciting and educational first race weekend in the RMC Central Europe series
The Formelaustria Race Academy Candidate driver took part in his first major race in the ROTAX MINI class and was impressed by the level of competition.
“Even though the top speed—around 105 km/h—isn’t significantly higher than what I’m used to, the nearly doubled engine power makes a massive difference. In particular, the much higher torque demands a lot more from me and my driving style,” says Marx.
With 33 entrants from a wide variety of countries, the Austrian was faced with a very strong international field for my first major outing.
Regardless, the ten-year-old quickly found his rhythm at the Pista Azzurra in Jesolo and demonstrated good pace. In qualifying, Marx finished 11th out of 33 drivers, just 0.4 seconds off the pole position time set by Robin Raikkonen.
By finishing 12th in the pre-final, Marx easily secured his spot in Sunday’s final races, where he had to start from the less-than-ideal outside line on the grid though. “Unfortunately, I also picked up a 3-second time penalty in the final, which left me in 18th place. In such a high-calibre field, where the gaps between drivers are extremely tight, you simply can’t afford mistakes like that,” he noted, showing a self-critical attitude.
In the subsequent Super Final, technical issues—specifically engine misfires—limited him to 20th place.
Nevertheless, the overall takeaway remains positive, as the young talent currently sits in 18th place in the overall standings. “On one hand, given my strong start and good pace, I definitely expected more. On the other hand, this race showed me that I can certainly hold my own within a large international field of competitors in this new class.”
The action continues as early as this week, with the next round of the RMC Central Europe taking place once again at the Pista Azzurra in Jesolo!
