Next FARA Candidate Driver: from swimmer to racing talent

Vienna’s Alexander Aytuganov is the latest member of the Formelaustria Race Academy.

The 15-year-old has joined Austria’s only professional junior formula racing program as a “Candidate Driver” and is now being developed into a Formula 4 driver.

He only began serious karting towards the end of 2025, participating in amateur events every fortnight at an indoor/outdoor karting facility in Vienna.

Recognizing his clear talent, the youngster began racing at the Speed Arena Rechnitz in May 2026 professionally and attended a Sodi World Series karting camp last August. “It was four days of intensive training, which helped me a great deal,” he recalled.

Upon joining the Formelaustria Race Academy, Alexander immediately began driver development training in one of Renauer Motorsport’s racing Mini Coopers, followed by Formula 4 simulator sessions.

“Alexander performed well. After some initial adjustment challenges, he improved steadily and reached a good standard,” says team principal Sepp Renauer, who will welcome the FARA talent back for another Mini Cooper session in a few days’ time.

Aytuganov is a multi-talented athlete; he was a competitive swimmer and also played tennis at a high amateur level.

In his spare time, he is often out with his camera, photographing rare car models. “In the future, I’ll probably be spending more time photographing the F4 race car that I get to drive,” he says with a laugh.
