Since the beginning of 2026, Austria’s only single-seater academy has offered this second membership level, and now Lucas Marx is the first top talent on board

Although Lucas Marx will only celebrate his eleventh birthday in 2026, he has already been involved in motorsports for years. The Styrian elementary school student began his career with a mini motocross bike and switched to karting three years ago.
The Graz native immediately showed great talent. In 2024, he won the Lower Austrian Championship race, and in the same year, he also became the Styrian Club Champion. 2025 saw Lucas venture abroad for the first time – he entered the “Dreiländertrophy,” which also took him to Italy and Germany, and he competed in the Italian ROK Bambini class with the “Maranello” team.
On legendary kart tracks like Lonato, he competed against the kids of Formula 1 legends such as Mika Häkkinen, Gerhard Berger, and Kimi Räikkönen, causing quite a stir: In his first appearance at Lonato, Lucas stormed from P21 on the grid to a 9th place finish.
Lucas also performed well in the Austrian ROK Cup, where the two Formelaustria Race Academy drivers Mario Kieser and Luis Moser have also earned their spurs. This season, Marx is competing in the CIK Central European Zone Championship and is currently in 2nd place in the RMicro category after four of seven rounds.
For the 2026 season, Lucas has set ambitious goals: He wants to win the Central European Zone Championship title, claim the Austrian Championship, and thereby qualify for the World Final in Portimão, Portugal, to represent Austria on the international stage.
“Lucas is an absolute talent, and we are delighted that he is now part of the Formelaustria Race Academy family,” said Program Director Harry Miltner. “He is currently competing with a top team in a strong championship and will be able to continue his development there at his own pace. When he is old enough, we will begin Formula 4 test drives.”
As a Candidate Driver, Marx will receive initial management and marketing tools, as well as media training and presentation opportunities from the Formelaustria Race Academy. “This will provide Lucas with training outside the cockpit and, in the medium term, will also increase his visibility, enabling him to generate additional sponsorship revenue.”
Lucas’s father, Michael Marx, was correspondingly pleased with his son’s acceptance into the program: “We saw the film about the Formelaustria Race Academy and were thrilled that something like this exists in Austria. When we then read about the Candidate Driver status and its advantages, it was clear that we wanted to do it.”
