Race Academy alumnus Schranz goes Le Mans

Formelaustria Race Academy graduate Simon Schranz will compete in the Ligier European Series in 2026.

The endurance racing series for sports cars was inspired by the 24 Hours of Le Mans and is organized by Ligier Automotive in collaboration with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO). The one-make championship has been held since 2020 and runs concurrently with the European Le Mans Series.

Schranz will share the cockpit of a Ligier JS P4 with Alex Gardner at the Virage Group Team. A total of six races will be held in 2026 at Barcelona, Le Castellet, Le Mans, Spa, Silverstone, and Portimao.

“I can’t wait to start with Team Virage in the Ligier European Series. For me, this season is all about learning and constantly improving. I’m convinced that together we can be successful,” the Austrian driver said, already looking forward to his new challenge.

Harry Miltner, Formelaustria Race Academy Director, is “happy that Simon has chosen this path. His two years with us have shown that he is not only a fast driver, but also a consistent driver over the course of a lap. Moreover, he is a meticulous worker and therefore ideally suited for endurance racing.”
